Born in Istanbul in 1959, Mehveş Demiren graduated from Notre Dame de Sion French Lycée in 1978 and from the Sociology Department of Strasbourg University in 1982. Demiren started her ceramics practice in Ayfer Karamani’s workshop in 1985.

 

Demiren’s ceramics focus on interpreting and carrying on the spirit of Ottoman and Turkish culture. Her work is largely composed of pieces bearing traces of Seljuk art. In addition to her ceramic panels, Demiren has created ceramic mural works and produced ceramic furniture. She lives and works in Istanbul.
